Rossmorr i23 HD interactive display tablet offers up high new year's resolution

Been eyeing the tablet sweetness that is the Wacom Cintiq 24HD, but not quite ready to make the financial investment that comes with it? Oregon-based Morgan Ross Egging has begun shipping the Rossmorr i23 HD. The 23-inch tablet offers up a 1920 x 1080 resolution (compare that the 24HD's 1920 x 1200) IPS display. In order to use the tablet, you'll need a separate Windows, OS X or Linux computer. The Rossmorr i23 HD will run you $1,999, which is about $500 cheaper than the Wacom -- a company with which, Morgan Ross Egging is careful to point out, it has no affiliation. Of course, the company has only been creating custom tablets since last year and certainly doesn't have the track record of a Wacom, either. Check out a video of the tablet in action after the break.

Update: Post was updated to correct the resolution of the tablets. Thanks artworkajb.

Words With Friends for Android updated, promises "smoother game experience"

wordswithfriends
As several of you noted in the comments to our post asking for cross-platform iOS/Android games, Words With Friends for Android does not provide the smoothest gaming experience... and that's being rather charitable.

You might be happy to hear that a couple of days ago Zynga released an update which promises to solve many of the Android-specific issues, such as notifications not popping up.

Sadly, installing the update is not a smooth experience; you have to manually uninstall the previous version, and then go to the Android Market and install it. What's nice is that it doesn't lose your saved games - this screenshot shows a game I've started before the update and continued after updating.

How's the new update working out for you? Let us know in the comments!

This Fish Has Teeth So Big It Bites People's Balls Off [Wtf]

Piranhas might have razor sharp teeth andthe ability to communicate but I'd rather have them feast on my body than this Pacu Fish. Why? Well, you see, the Pacu Fish has human-like teeth and loves to bite off testicles to ensure you die a slow, ball-less and bleed-full death. Ow. More »

Just like the basic Zoho service, the app is available totally free of charge. Paid subscriptions get you additional storage space and start at $3 per month for professional use.

HP outs Compaq L2311c docking monitor, LV1911 and LV2011 budget displays

The last time HP unveiled a monitor it was chasing gamers looking for a little 3D on a budget, but this time around, it's got business users on the brain. Specifically, the kind of workers who spend a lot of time away from the office, or perhaps share a workspace with others. That's the idea behind the 23-inch Compaq L2311c Notebook Docking Monitor, which connects to laptops via USB. That same cable will also transmit video, though even HP will admit you'll get far better results if you use USB 3.0 instead of 2.0. Taking a tour of the monitor itself, you'll find a four-port USB hub and VGA socket, along with a 720p webcam, which should pair nicely with HP's bundled MyRoom software. The 1080p display is also adjustable, with 130mm of space to slide it up and down.

At the lower end of the spectrum, HP also announced the LV1911 and LV2011, a pair of 18.5- and 20-inch monitors, both of which forgo niceties like a webcam or USB hub. Either way, the resolution is low, given the spacious screen sizes: 1366 x 768 for the 18.5-incher, and 1600 x 900 for the 20-inch number. The smaller LV1911 will arrive stateside in March for $125, while the LV2011 will go on sale next month for $135. As for the L2311c docking monitor, it'll cost $319, and be available in the US, Japan and other Asian markets later this month.

Microsoft trumpets Windows Phone 7 numbers on first birthday

windows phone 7
Happy first birthday, Windows Phone 7! One year on, and the fledgling mobile operating system has 36,000 active developers in its AppHub community, 1.5 million downloads of its Developer Tools, and 11,500 apps in its Marketplace.

Microsoft is quick to take a couple shots at competitors' app stores, beating its chest about not re-counting tanslations of an app or "lite" apps, "increasing tonnage" by supporting apps from other mobile platforms, and not listing wallpapers as a category.

That's all fine and dandy, but we spend a lot of time sifting through WP7 app feeds -- and we're still not seeing a lot of awesome apps on the platform. We think a few marquee apps would've made a pretty nice first birthday present -- along with a much smoother update process for WP7 users.

Developer pairs robot with gaming controllers for remote cat grooming, affection expression

You could take the time to make your cat feel loved. Or you could augment a robot to do it for you. Software engineer Taylor Veltrop has accomplished this by combining a 21-inch-tall Nao robot, a few Wiimotes, a Kinect sensor bar, a treadmill and a head-mounted display. The configuration, which represents about a year's work and several thousand dollars in parts, uses the Kinect and Wii remotes to control the robot's arms, the sensor bar and treadmill to provide movement and the head-mounted display to move the Nao's head and adjust its camera angle. This is still a work in progress, and doesn't include things like two-way audio, which Veltrop plans to implement using an integrated microphone and speakers. Click past the break for a video of robotic feline grooming action.

Google Music at Android Market

Just a quick heads up that today is the last day for Google's music blowout, in which albums are going for as low as $4.99 and individual songs are going for, well, a song, at 49 cents each. Selection varies as we're very much missing WMG from from the lineup. But a $5 album is a $5 album. Be sure to swing by today.
