T-Mobile USA's former CEO Phillipp Humm to become chief executive at Vodafone on October 1st

TMobile USA's former CEO Phillipp Humm to become chief executive at Vodafone on October 1st

Less than 24 hours after the unexpected news that Phillipp Humm had penned his resignation as T-Mobile USA's CEO, Reuters is now reporting he himself has said a chief executive position awaits him at Vodafone. As you may know, this comes after the Magenta carrier had stated Humm would be leaving to reunite with his family back in the Old Continent, and seek a new career outside of Deutsche Telekom. According to the report, Phillipp Humm's new role will be as a chief executive for Vodafone's operations in northern and central Europe, which is set to begin as early as October 1st. Naturally, Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao seems to be quite satisfied with Humm's upcoming arrival, saying it "will be a strong addition to the Vodafone group executive committee."

Facebook's Email Bungle: Not What It Did but How It Did It

For every step Facebook takes toward improving consumer privacy and information control, it seems to take about five giant steps back. The latest example is the unilateral change it made to users' listed email addresses: It converted them to @facebook.com, and messages now go to the Facebook email in-box rather than to their original destinations.

BlueStacks Now Lets You Run Android Apps On Your Mac

android-v-iphoneThere's no love lost between Android and Apple users, or at least among the fanboys and fangirls. The flamewar between the passionate adopters of the top two mobile operating systems has persisted for awhile now, even in spite of our pleas for a detente. Luckily, one startup is on a mission to bridge the gap between the Open and Walled Gardens, so that we can all join hands and walk off into the sunset. At Google I/O today, BlueStacks staged a mock wedding between Android and Apple as the backdrop for the launch of its Android App Player for Mac -- software that aims to bring 400K+ Android apps to iOS.

Skydiving and BMX Bike Riding: Does This Stuff Actually Make Google Glass Cool? [Chatroom]

If today's Google I/O keynote is any indication, Google's idea of being edgy during its presentation of Google Glass is to have a bunch extreme sports bros roll-in/drop-in on bikes and parachutes. But for all the time and effort and money that likely went into this grandstanding, is this actually impressive? Let's talk about it. More »

Google's IO Keynote 2012 is up in video form, in case you missed the skydivers the first time

Yeah, two hours can be a lot of press conference to sit through, but if you took a bathroom break, got a drink or just blinked, you might have missed some of the action-packed spectacle that was today's I/O keynote. We got Jelly Bean, the Nexus 7, the Nexus Q and some extreme Project Glass action. Check out the full video after the break.

Update: And just like that, it's gone again. Google has apparently made the video private. We'll add it back in when it goes live again.

How to quiet those damned Google+ Events notifications

Google+ Events

Google today rolled out Events for Google+, which is a slick way to invite people to, erm, events. (Not unlike what's already on that ... other social network.

The bad thing is that right now every damned person on Google+ can invited every other damned person to their damn event. And while I love you all, I just can't make it to your birthday party in Akron this weekend. Sorry, just couldn't move the schedule.

Right now there's no way to limit who can invite you to events, and that's leading to a lot of inbox clutter. The good news is that you can at least get rid of the e-mails that are sent when you're invited to a damned event, or there's an update to a damned event, or there's a reminder about a damned event, or there's activity on a damned event that you created. Just hop into your Google+ settings, and uncheck the boxes you see above.

And while I appreciate the invite, I just can't make your son's bris this weekend.

Google's Blogger platform adds five new HTML5 Dynamic Views

Google Blogger Mosaic Dynamic View
Google, as part of its ongoing and much-needed overhaul of its popular Blogger platform, has just enabled five dynamic, HTML5ish, AJAXy 'Dynamic Views'. There's a video introducing the new layouts after the break.

The five new views provide fresh and interesting ways to explore your favorite Blogger blogs. The Mosaic view, for example, creates a wall of thumbnails -- click one, and it zooms to fill the screen; click it again and it minimizes. Flipcard is similar to Mosaic, but not quite as eclectic. Sidebar, Timeslide and Snapshot round off the new views, with each one obviously targeted at different types of content, from photo blogs, to text-only philosophy blogs, and everything in between.

For now, you have to visit a Blogger blog and add /view to the URL to enable the new Dynamic Views. If you own a Blogger blog, you can disable the new views -- and really, why weren't they disabled by default?

If feedback is positive -- which we're sure it will be -- these Dynamic Views will soon be enabled by default. You'll also be able to edit the views in much the same way as current Blogger templates.
