Chili Technology Chilipad Lightning Review: Air-Condition Your Sheets [Lightning Review]

Ah, summer: Sun, BBQs, scantily-clad people gallivanting about for your viewing pleasure. Popsicles. And hot, sticky nights that transform your bed from the restful haven you love into an oppressive heat-coffin. Sleeping in the sumer sucks. More »

Line Grapefruit is a tricky Flash "path" game

linegrapefruit
Okay, see that snaking line coming in from the right on the screenshot? That's you. And see those large round circles? Those are supposedly grapefruits, only they won't sit still - they keep moving up and down and cutting across your path. And if you touch one, you die!

That's what you have to deal with in Line Grapefruit. But that's not all - you're also on a time limit. In fact, you have a very limited amount of time to make it through the "path" (for lack of a better word). You need to snake your way through the winding trail without touching anything. The good news is that a grapefruit only kills you if it touches the end of the line - once you've made it past the grapefruit, nothing happens if it crosses the path you've made.

This is not an easy game, but it's quite unique - I can't recall seeing another game quite like it.

HP plans to hold off on building ARM-based Windows tablets, focus on x86 instead

Whether it's put off by Microsoft's own push into tablets with Surface or just taking a wait-and-see approach, HP has now confirmed that it won't be among those offering ARM-based Windows 8 (or RT) hardware when the OS makes its long-awaited debut later this year. That possibility was first reported by SemiAccurate earlier today and has now been backed up by Bloomberg, which has the official word straight from HP spokesperson Marlene Somsak. She noted that HP will instead be focusing solely on x86-based devices, a decision that she says was "influenced by input from our customers," adding that the "robust and established ecosystem of x86 applications provides the best customer experience at this time and in the immediate future." What's more, Somsak went on to say that HP's first Windows 8 tablet will focus on the business market, which certainly lines up with the leaked device pictured above that surfaced a few months back.

What's the Worst Picture of You on Facebook? [Chatroom]

For many of us, Facebook was around in college. Which means there are some awful, awful pictures of us circulating on the internet. I'm one of the guiltiest offenders. But that's all right. Because a lot of these images taken at bad angles, in weird costumes, and blind drunk are great memories and make for a laugh now. So I'm sharing a few of mine (sorry, mom!) and asking you, what's the worst photo of yourself on Facebook? More »

US Cellular pledges to carry Windows Phone 8 devices in the fall

U.S. Cellular has confirmed to PC Mag that it's "excited" by the prospect of carrying Windows Phone 8 handsets when they land later this year. A PR person even went as far as saying that WP8 "will be an important part of our lineup." The move leaves Sprint, Cricket and MetroPCS as the only major-league holdouts for the new platform -- or perhaps their PR departments just aren't as bubbly.

Social Travel Site Gogobot Redesigns: Less Text, More Photos

gogobotGogobot, the social travel site that recently passed the 1 million registered user mark, just launched an interesting redesign this week that turn the site's homepage into more of an interactive magazine experience with a focus on photos instead of the site's previous text-heavy design. As Gogobot's founder Travis Katz told me earlier this week, the Gogobot team noticed that its users didn't just use the service to plan their trips and update their friends, but that many of them also used the service just to browse photos. This, said Katz, became especially clear after Gogobot launched its mobile app earlier this year and allowed users to share and create virtual postcards from their trips.
