Google Flexes Nexus' Tablet Muscles

Everyone in the tech world now suddenly wants to make their own hardware. Apple's been doing it for years, but Microsoft jumped on recently with the Surface tablet, and now Google's sort of making its own tablet too. I say "sort of" because the new Nexus 7 tablet isn't really made by Google. Like everything else in the Nexus line, it's made by a name-brand hardware builder -- in this case Asus.

This morning, an updated version of the stock Android Music app was leaked along with a new version of Android Market. The new Music app, which is labeled 'version 3', is similar to the leaked build from December, but it has received a ton of polish -- and indeed, it looks almost ready for prime time.

If you don't have Android 2.3 -- or don't want to root your phone to install the leaked Music app -- take a look through our gallery, and then read on for our initial hands-on impressions.

Chili Technology Chilipad Lightning Review: Air-Condition Your Sheets [Lightning Review]

Ah, summer: Sun, BBQs, scantily-clad people gallivanting about for your viewing pleasure. Popsicles. And hot, sticky nights that transform your bed from the restful haven you love into an oppressive heat-coffin. Sleeping in the sumer sucks. More »

Today in international tech news: After a decade, Microsoft and the EU are nearing the end of a marathon legal tango. Also: A British intelligence agency issues some dire warnings about cyberattacks and terrorism; "Angry Birds" tries to tap into -- not fight -- piracy in China; and police investigate racist tweets in England after a heartbreaking soccer defeat.

Windows 8 App Store images leaked?

windows 8 app store
Windows 8 images continue to leak onto the Internet, despite Microsoft's wallpaper-based pleas to those with access to the early releases. Today's installment courtesy CNBeta shows the upcoming Windows App Store, which will likely feature prominently in Windows 8.

We've got our doubts about the authenticity of the image. In addition to showing several of the built-in games which already ship with Windows, Opera is listed -- and a competing browser seems like an odd inclusion this early on. Of course, with the browser ballot still in place in the EU for quite some time, Microsoft would probably need to include rivals like Opera and Firefox to stay out of trouble. We're also not sure why Clickgamer is shown beneath Angry Birds instead of Rovio -- the game's actual publisher.

It's still early, of course, so it's entirely possible that the Windows App Store image is genuine but merely using placeholder images and text for now. Anyone else thinking Windows Marketplace might be a more logical name? You know, to keep things consistent with Windows Phone and keep Apple's legal eagles at bay.

Amazing Alex from Rovio arriving on Android in July

Rovio's next eagerly awaited title, Amazing Alex, will be with us on Android sometime in July. The above trailer has been created by Rovio confirming such, that we'll be seeing it this month. Sadly, what the trailer doesn't give us, is any sign of gameplay footage.

Amazing Alex will of course be a follow up title from the developers of the smash hit, Angry Birds franchise. It will  be a physics based puzzle game, with over 100 levels to tackle. Additionally players can design their own levels using 35 different interactive objects. And, in true Rovio style, we're promised regular, free updates. We're looking forward to getting our hands on this one.
