iSites overhauled, now lets you publish cloud-based HTML5 iPhone apps in minutes

iSites -- a zero-code cloud-based 'app creator' -- can now generate HTML5 apps that work on iOS devices. With this new feature, dubbed 'InstantApp', you can now design a single app in your browser and publish it natively on Android and iOS, and as an HTML5 iPhone app.

We haven't looked at iSites before, but it shot to fame last year when it launched with native iOS and Android support. Self-publishing Android apps wasn't a problem because Google does very little moderation of the Market, but iSites ran into trouble with its iOS apps. Thousands of people signed up for the service after it was featured on Mashable and TechCrunch, and you can imagine Apple's chagrin as thousands of cookie cutter apps flooded its approval queue.

Genwi, the developer behind iSites, realized something had to be done -- it had to circumvent the App Store approval process. Genwi, of course, turned to HTML5 Web apps -- which can be pinned to the iPhone home screen and which can be shoehorned into almost behaving like native apps.

Read on for our experiences with iSites' new InstantApp HTML5 iOS app creator.

Complete Your iPad Painting Experience with ARTSi

This is another Kickstarter project.  Because it can be hard to hold your iPad one-handed while you sketch, Dan Almazan has developed a holder that he calls ARTSi.  The device looks like a traditional artist’s palette, but it holds an iPad instead of paints.  The ARTSi will be injection-molded, and it will work with the [...]

T-Mobile, on Twitter, apparently confirms Samsung Galaxy Note coming, offers no other details

Galaxy Note

For a while now, details about the Samsung Galaxy Note coming to T-Mobile have been floating around. Support documentation, contests showing off the device and countless other small pieces of information have been unveiled over time but T-Mobile themselves have never really come out and said they'll have the device definitively. That is, until earlier Monday morning when they were pressed a little bit for information on Twitter by @EpicRivas:

@epicrivas We are excited to confirm the Samsung Galaxy Note will be coming to T-Mobile! More info to come. ^JM

That's it. That's all the info you get for now. It's coming and T-Mobile will tell us later some more details but for now, you'll have to live with what you got. For T-Mobile's sake though, I hope they plan on rolling it out with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich onboard considering many other carriers have already released the update. Maybe that's what they're waiting on? At this point though, with rumors of the Galaxy Note 2 aplenty is anyone waiting to pick this up on T-Mobile?

Raspberry Pi production ramped up to 4,000 per day, 5MP camera module on its way (video)

Raspberry Pi production ramped up to 4,000 per day, 5MP camera module on its way (video)

If you'd been frustrated thanks to all the Raspberries having been picked, and had even considered the bitter taste of other fruit, there's hope for you yet. The tiny computer's maker has just announced that production is now at 4,000 units per day, and the previous restriction of one purchase per person has been lifted. Good news. In addition to this is the announcement of a new camera board in the works. The 5-megapixel module (as expected, dropping a few notches from the 14MP prototype) is expected to cost around $20-$25, and be available in around three months. So now you can have your fill of the sweet little berries and look forward to your next upgrade too. Now you just need to think of a suitably sweet application for it.

Marc Andreessen On Marissa Mayer Joining Yahoo: ‘It’s Great For The Valley’

marc andreessenBarely an hour after longtime Google executive Marissa Mayer was announced as the new CEO of Yahoo, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen praised the move while on-stage at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen. He contrasted Mayer with Yahoo interim CEO Ross Levinsohn, who was seen was another leading contender. Andreessen was careful to praise Levinsohn, but he said Levinsohn would have been more of sales- or content-centric CEO, whereas Mayer will be a product-centric CEO — and having another product CEO is "great for the valley." In fact, he noted that Yahoo's press release says the appointment "signals a renewed focus on product innovation."

Into the wild: cultivating the next generation of American scientists with Project Aether

DNP Into the wild cultivating the next generation of American scientists

At first it was faint -- a blurry smear bisecting the sky above, running roughly north to south and flanked by a second, even more indistinct line to the west. Soon, though, both lines began to change, coalescing and intensifying into bright green streaks impossible to miss and difficult to ignore.

As the night began to expire and the morning matured, those lines grew brighter and brighter and then, without warning, they started to dance. Numbing feet and chilly fingers forgotten, bundled-up onlookers looked skyward to gasp and laugh out loud as the evergreen, spectral curtains far above began to waver and move, blown by a fickle celestial wind. Waves traveled from north to south and back as the luminescent lines above twisted, forming glowing knots of purple and red before slowly spreading out, covering the night sky in green, bright enough that even the snow-colored landscape glowed like an emerald wonderland. Gradually, the motion stopped and slowed, seeming to stall in the sky above, exhausted before -- encore; the heavenly dance began anew.

Instagram updated with Nexus 7 support, Flickr sharing

Android Central

If you're among the lucky few to already be in possession of a Google Nexus 7, then you'll be pleased to see hear that the Instagram app for Android has been updated to support your new tablet. The latest version 1.1.7 of Instagram for Android is now fully functional on the Jelly Bean tablet, whereas before N7 owners were turned away with a compatibility message. Though the focus of Instagram on a tablet is on viewing, not creating content, you can also use the Nexus 7's 1.2MP front-facing camera to take your own mugshots and filter them to your heart's content.

In addition, the latest update includes the ability to share Instagram'd photos directly to Flickr as part of the sharing menu once you've saved your image. (Unfortunately there's still no native Google+ support right now, though our fingers remain crossed.)

Check the link below to download Instagram for Android from Google Play.

Speedtest.net overhauled with new look, new features

speedtest
Speedtest.net is pretty much the go-to site for quickly figuring out how fast (or slow) your connection really is and comparing the numbers your ISP boasts with what it actually delivers. And now it's got a new coat of paint and a couple of neat features. In brief:
  • New UI: The map widget is much improved; it actually looks like a map now, and it's easy to see where you are.
  • Smart server selection: If there are several test servers nearby, Speedtest will now ping each to see which has the least latency and use that for the test. You can still specify servers manually, too.
  • User accounts: You can sign up for a free account and aggregate results from several computers/connections.
  • Speed Wave: This new feature lets you add your test results to the results of many other users, and get a nice composite view.
All in all, you get some nice, new functionality and a snazzier interface to boot. Nice!
