Another day, and another leak of the Sony LT30p Xperia T

Android Central

The forthcoming Sony LT30p continues to pose for the camera ahead of its expected launch at IFA 2012, in Berlin, later this month. This time around, the folks at Nixanbal have got their hands on one and proceeded to take some pretty good looking shots of the device. By now we're starting to get a pretty good picture of at least what the final units will look like.

Just in case you've missed any of the leaked info thus far, the LT30p 'Mint' is expected to be known as the Xperia T come launch. Leaked specs include a 720p display, Snapdragon S4 CPU, 13MP rear camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with on screen buttons. It bears a passing resemblance to 2011's Xperia Arc with its curved rear panel too.

We know Sony will be showing off their new wares in Berlin, starting with their press conference on Aug 29. Android Central will be on the ground in Germany right through, so keep it locked to the site for all the best from Berlin.

Court Docs Reveal Details of Kim Dotcom's Rough-and-Tumble Arrest

Court testimony from the case of Kim Dotcom, the founder of file-sharing site Megaupload, has been released. Bloomberg was among those to report on the testimony, noting that a New Zealand police officer said the use of helicopters when arresting Dotcom was "over the top." Another report said that Dotcom claims to have been punched and kicked by police during the raid on his $25 million mansion. Dotcom was arrested in January on charges of orchestrating the biggest copyright infringement conspiracy in U.S. history.

Gorgeous Golden Gate Knife Packs the Same Steel as Its Namesake [Beautiful]

Though it was crafted in France, Laguiole's beautiful Golden Gate Bridge folding pocket knife was inspired the iconic red orange bridge spanning the San Francisco Bay. And in addition to a handle designed to look like it's made of criss-crossing girders, the knife is forged from the same steel used in the actual bridge that's stood the test of time since 1937. Apple removes Youtube app in iOS 6, but it's not a shot at Google

Youtube on iOS

If you're connected to the Internet, you've probably heard that Apple has dropped support for their Youtube app in the upcoming version of iOS. You might have even heard that it's part of the vast thermonuclear nonsense that the late Steve Jobs started against Android, and other eye-grabbing headlines.

It's not.

Youtube has been one the the most popular applications for iOS since the beginning, and was even featured in the first round of iPhone commercials. Everyone loves Youtube, even Apple. We poke a lot of fun at Apple, but they would never remove a feature and user favorite from iDevices. This isn't part of the feud between Apple and Google, it's a way to provide a better experience with less work.

Previously, Apple wrote its own Youtube app and bundled it into iOS. And when compared to the Android version, it sucks. There was no monetization (ads), which means plenty of content was missing -- music videos from Vevo, for instance. As Rene mentions over at iMore, many users preferred to use Google's web player over the bundled app. If users (hey, that's you and me!) would rather use mobile Safari than your app, it's time for some changes. If those changes mean less work for the iOS development team, that's a win all around.

There is a bit of weirdness surrounding today's news though, and that's the part where Apple says they had to stop because their license expired. We aren't privy to what goes on between Apple and Google, and there surely is some sort of agreement between them concerning Youtube, but you don't need a license to make a Youtube app. A quick peek at Google Play will show you that anyone can build one using the public APIs, and plenty of folks with less resources than Apple have done just that. Apple is pretty hush-mouthed over this sort of thing, so we're not going to read too much into it, but they could make a Youtube app if they wanted to, with no strings attached.

Thankfully, they aren't. They're leaving it up to Google to make one and put it in the Appstore, where it can be downloaded by anyone who wants it -- which we're guessing will be everyone. A quick look at the Google+ app for iOS tells us Google can make an app that showcases HD content and looks beautiful, just like the latest Android app, and we're glad to see it happening. In the meantime, iOS 6 beta users can use Safari, and be glad that Apple did the right thing this time.

Put Yourself in the Picture with ClickStik

The new ClickStik Bluetooth Remote and Camera Stand from Dexim combines an iOS app and a tripod stand for the iPhone 4/4S or iPod with a Bluetooth remote control.  The free app (which also works with the iPad) works with both the front and back cameras on your iOS device to zoom, edit, capture and share photos and videos via Facebook, Twitter, email, and SMS.  Because it’s Bluetooth, the included remote control works from up to 30 feet away, so you can get in the picture, too.  The remote has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.  The stable universal holder and tripod works on any flat surface, and you’ll also get a Velcro strap to attach the tripod to elevated surfaces, too.  The ClickStik is available from Amazon for $49.90.

How The iPad Keeps You Connected with Wi-Fi or 3G

Apple have done a great job of marketing their iPad device. Their strategies have gone a long way in convincing consumers that the device is the best on the market when it comes to browsing the Web or watching online streaming videos. The same can be said of connecting with friends via any social networking services according to the manufacturers.

These claims are backed up with some very sophisticated apps, features and services. The overall opinion of many industry pundits is that the device is a worthy competitor to netbooks. They believe that Steve Jobs and his team did a great job in developing the iPad even though there was a lot of scepticism when it was first launched onto the market.

The device is very fast and easy to use. It has built-in, high-speed 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi which makes downloading files and streaming videos a cinch. Even when there is heavy gateway traffic or too many subscribers using the network, the device copes well making the experience a pleasant one. This is all thanks to the beefed-up Safari app and the latest Wi-Fi standard the device uses.

Apple claims that Safari is the fastest browser around which makes browsing the Internet a simple task that happens at lightening speed. One of the great features the iPad offers users is it’s capability to work on Wi-Fi as well as 3G. This means users will always be able to get on the Internet wherever they happen to be and don’t have to rely on ‘hot spots’ to stay connected.

Most Internet providers these days have 3G service and this means that iPad users can seamlessly swap over from Wi-Fi to 3G in an instant when they need to without having to contact another provider in order to do so.

Whenever an iPad user comes to the end of their surfing minutes, there’s an interactive push notification that pops up to let them know they need to either upgrade to the next data plan or switch to the latest Wi-Fi standard in their vicinity. Of course it goes without saying that the device has it’s own app to monitor and manage data usage.

Visualized: industrial vending machines are a modder's best friend

Visualized vending machines are a hacker's best friend

The perfect compliment to a massive hackerspace like Massachusetts's Artisan's Asylum? An industrial vending machine stocked with all the necessities for your average modder. Fastenal specializes in business industrial vending machines, stocking up units with things like office and first aid supplies. The company also provides cutting tools and materials for welders and metal fabricators, making it a bit of a godsend for hackerspace communities, where venturing out to a hardware store often means an annoying interruption of a project's workflow -- or, as a woman at the space told us: a lot of people order takeout because they don't want leave when they're working, so it sort of makes sense that the space would offer up such a solution. Members swipe their cards, applying the charges to their membership accounts. The thing stocks welding gloves, dust masks, screw drivers, tape measures, various adhesives and multi-tools, so modders never have to leave to safety of their hackerspace again.

OpenGL ES 3.0 and OpenGL 4.3 squeeze textures to the limit, bring OpenVL along for the ride

OpenGL ES 30 and OpenGL 43 squeeze textures to the limit, bring OpenVL along for the ride

Mobile graphics are clearly setting the agenda at SIGGRAPH this year -- ARM's Mali T600-series parts have just been chased up by a new Khronos Group standard that will likely keep those future video cores well-fed. OpenGL ES 3.0 represents a big leap in textures, introducing "guaranteed support" for more advanced texture effects as well as a new version of ASTC compression that further shrinks texture footprints without a conspicuous visual hit. OpenVL is also coming to give augmented reality apps their own standard. Don't worry, desktop users still get some love through OpenGL 4.3: it adds the new ASTC tricks, new visual effects (think blur) and support for compute shaders without always needing to use OpenCL. All of the new standards promise a bright future in graphics for those living outside of Microsoft's Direct3D universe, although we'd advise being patient: there won't be a full Open GL ES 3.0 testing suite for as long as six months, and any next-generation phones or tablets will still need the graphics hardware to match.

Microsoft releases sexy Bing app for iPad

It's still a bit odd seeing Microsoft deliver apps for Apple's mobile platform. And it's even stranger still to see one as sexy as the new Bing app for iPad, which brings a slick, immersive search experience to Apple's tablet.

Just as a regular search on bing.com will, the Bing app for iPad tailors the results it displays based on what you're searching for. There are loads of custom views, covering everything from movies and maps to weather and shopping. The app also offers a heads-up display of currently trending searches, complete with related images, which is an iPad-exclusive feature.

Navigation is a breeze thanks to multitouch controls, allowing users to flick or swipe through results. And while the development team refers to the app as "touch and decide," Bing Voice Search is also built in -- making it easy to start a query without using the iPad's on-screen keyboard.

The Bing app for iPad is available for download now from the App Store.
