Gladinet maps Amazon Cloud Drive to your Windows desktop

amazon cloud drive
Amazon's recently-introduced Cloud Drive is a great place to store your files online. It offers 5 gigs of totally free space, and U.S. users also get access to the handy Cloud Player app (for Web and Android!) which streams music you upload to your Cloud Drive.

The service could be a little easier to use, however. Until Amazon releases a desktop client, Windows users might want to take another look at Gladinet. The multi-service cloud connector has now added Amazon Cloud Drive support and will let you map a network drive letter to your account with minimal fuss.

Once you've added your credentials to Gladinet, just pick the letter you want to assign to the drive and you're good to go. You can then copy files to and from your Cloud Drive, rename items, and manage folders like you would any local hard drive in your system.

The only downside is that the free version of Gladinet gives you a limited number of cloud interactions. Once you use those up, you'll need to upgrade to the paid version, which costs $49.99. If you work with a number of cloud-based storage providers, however, it could be well worth the price tag.

Valve launches Steam Greenlight to pick cream of indie game crop

Valve launches Steam Greenlight to pick cream of indie game crop for its store

Steam has developed a reputation as a haven for indie games like Super Meat Boy, so it's only fitting that store owner Valve has just launched a section to welcome more of those games into its tent. Greenlight lets small developers submit titles and have gamers vote as to whether or not the candidates should get space on Steam's virtual shelf. Pickier players don't have to see every game in contention; they can filter the list down to specific game types and platforms, and collections can narrow the selection to categories hand-picked by fans or publishers. No games have cleared Greenlight just yet, but it won't be long before the logjam becomes a flood -- between this and general apps, Steam is about to get a lot more crowded.

Video of iPhone 5 dummy at IFA 2012

We've seen case manufacturers put together dummy Apple products before, and while they're not always perfectly accurate, they can often be based on actual parts or specs smuggled out of the supply line. The above video was filmed at IFA 2012 and shows a quick hands-on with one such dummy, in this case an iPhone 5 by GSM Israel News.

Take it as an approximation of what the iPhone 5 might look and handle like, but don't take it as anything more than that.

The video shows the iPhone 5 dummy in an unmarked skin case. Once removed, it looks pretty much identical to the assembled parts leaks we've seen shown off previously, complete with iPhone identifier and markings on the back. It remains taller, with a 4-inch, 16:9 screen and a centered FaceTime Camera. And it remains primarily metal-backed, with RF-friendly glass sections above and below so it can connect to networks and other devices via cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The 3.5mm headphone jack remains at the bottom, and the new, miniaturized Dock connector is in full view. As is a curious little oblong between the rear, iSight camera and the LED flash.

Update: Our own Alex Dobie and Richard Devine have now had some hands-on time with the iPhone 5 dummy live at IFA 2012. They're two of the best in the business, and here are their hands-on impressions of the near-final hardware dummy.

Update 2: We've swapped out the Hebrew language video with the English version they've just posted. Enjoy.

September 12 is less than 2 weeks away.

ARCHOS Announces the GamePad Gaming Tablet

I want to see a show of hands… who remembers the Tapwave Zodiac Palm OS PDA? Back in 2003 it was a very cool device that merged a  PDA with built in gaming controls. The new GamePad from ARCHOS reminds me a little bit of the Zodiac because it offers a full set of analog gaming buttons. I love my iPad, but playing action games really would benefit from a physical joystick. I’ve tried a few of the stick on solutions, which do improve things a little, but it’s still not the same as dedicated buttons. The GamePad features a 7-inch, capacitive screen, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, Mali 400mp quad-core Graphics Processor, physical control buttons and analog sticks. I’m not finding any info on how much memory it has and if the controls will work with all games, or only those specially designed to use them. The GamePad will be available at the end of October for less than 150€ ($188).

Listen to the Engadget Mobile Podcast, live at 3pm ET!

A giant man is burning somewhere in the desert, and Myriam is currently gazing upon him. In her absence, Brad will be joined by fellow Engadgeteers Dana Wollman and Jon Fingas to discuss the latest happenings at IFA (as well as the rest of the world). We've got a lot to discuss in a very short period of time, so the ratio of mobile geekery / minute is going to be pretty dang high. Join us at 3pm!

Black Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE with Jelly Bean hands-on

Android Central

What's this we have here? An international Samsung Galaxy S3 with 4G LTE support? In glossy black? With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean? We spotted this desirable device at the Vodafone Germany booth at IFA 2012 in Berlin today, and took it for a quick spin. It's a tad thicker than the standard international Galaxy S3, and a little heavier too. The glossy black chassis makes this S3 a bit less flashy than the other models, though if you prefer the original pebble white design, you'll be able to get the LTE S3 in that color too. And don't forget that Samsung also just announced new colors of brown, red, and gray, along with it.

On the software side, it's running the latest version of Android, 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean on the S3 works just like it does on the leaked builds we've seen for the 3G/HSPA model. You've got a redesigned notification bar, Google Now and other Jelly Bean features, along with new TouchWiz features like Dormant mode and Easy mode.

We've got more photos, and a full video walkthrough after the break.
