Devon Works Tread Watch is the Ultimate Steampunk Timepiece

The Devon Works Tread watch is a steampunk fan’s dream timepiece. Created in Los Angeles, California by founder Scott Devon, the Tread features a bolted brass casing and an aeronautically engineered mechanical conveyor belt time system that uses four internal 2-micron thin belts that spin within the case to display the time. The watch is powered by a lithium polymer rechargeable cell that is charged by wireless induction. What is the price of the ultimate in Victorian Futurism? Oh, only $25,000. At that price, you’ll probably want two of them, but that might be difficult as the  Devon Tread 1 Steampunk watch will be limited to a special edition of 150 pieces. You can pre-order now with deliveries beginning this November just in time for the holidays. So who is ordering one? Anyone? Anyone?

Check out this and other insanely cool (and equally insanely priced) watches at Watchismo.com.

Google Cloud Print comes to HP ePrint printers

hp google cloud print
HP has become the first major OEM to deliver support for Google Cloud Print in retail-boxed printers. In an official release, HP announced that its ePrint-enabled printers are now fully Cloud Print compatible. Just sign in to your Google account, pick your HP ePrint device, and you're ready to fire off a print job from anywhere you've got Internet access. Well, as long as your app supports Cloud Print as well -- like Gmail and Google Docs, for example.

We're curious, though -- how many of you are still printing? Like our pals at Engadget, our printers have been mostly gathering dust for the last few years.

The Kindle Fire HD vs Kindle Fire: What's changed?

DNP Kindle Fire 2 vs Kindle Fire What's changed

Well, Amazon unveiled a trio of tablets today, with last year's champ elbowed out of the spotlight by the Kindle Fire HD with its beefier processor and display. While we'll pour one out for the downgraded former flagship, we here at Engadget are more concerned with stacking the stats side-by-side to see what's changed in the 12 months since were here last. If you're curious yourself, why not join us after the break, but we warned, things are gonna get seriously nerdy.

Amazon outs Xray for Textbooks, 'smart glossary' for all your learning needs

Ever wanted Amazon's X-ray for books to play nice with those school publications as well? If so, you're in the luck. The outfit announced today that X-ray for Textbooks will provide a library of terms to lend a hand with your studies alongside a similar function for movies that's powered by IMDB. Of course, the helpful tech will land with the trio of new slates that were also unveiled at the event.

Tarzan Ball is a tricky hook-and-pull physics game

tarzanball
So, you're a ball. A Tarzan Ball, to be precise. You've earned the nickname thanks to your astonishing ability to shoot out a lengthy 'vine' (I hope it's a vine) at objects, and then pull yourself towards those objects.

That's a handy ability to have, especially since you've got no legs, no arms, and no other means of transportation. In Tarzan Ball, the rope is everything. But you don't just swing around the screen aimlessly - that wouldn't be much of a game now, would it?

Instead, your goal in life is to collect "targets". Each level has one of these "targets" hidden away somewhere on the screen, usually behind some kind of barrier. Once you navigate close enough to the target, you can shoot your rope at it and just reel it in. That's when you pass the level.

You can't die in this game, but it can still be very frustrating. It's actually one of the tougher games I've posted recently. Still, if you enjoy physics games, this one is quite nicely made.

[This is actually the sequel to IQ Ball, which we covered last year! -Ed]

DropSpace adds real Dropbox sync to Android

dropspace
Dropbox offers a lovely client for Android, but it's lacking true "sync" functionality. You can merely browse your Dropbox, pull files into the device, and manually upload specific files.

DropSpace is a little Android app that makes Dropbox on Android work like Dropbox - that is, you get real folder synchronization in the background.

When you run the app you're prompted for your Dropbox credentials. After logging in to Dropbox, you get to select which device folders you'd like to sync to the cloud. It's a straightforward mapping process: You select a folder on the device, and then specify where in Dropbox it should go.

The interface is rather clunky, at least for now. The biggest annoyance is that you can't edit your "sync list": if you add a folder and then wish to remove it, you must delete the entire list of folders and start over.

In terms of functionality, it works quite well. I tested it with the camera folder, and it was nice to be able to take my photos using the lean default Camera app and have them sync up to the cloud instantly.

Amazon announces X-Ray for Movies, a Kindle feature that uses IMDB to name the actors for you

Amazon announces XRay for movies, a Kindle feature that names the actors for you

Amazon is on a roll at its Kindle press event today, unveiling tons of new hardware, but it's also got some software tricks up its sleeve too: the company just announced X-Ray for Movies, a feature that uses the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) to name the actors for you. As you might know, Amazon already offers X-Ray for books, but this is the first time you can use the feature to get more information about films. To active X-Ray, just pause whatever you're watching and you'll see things like actor bios, a cast list and links to other titles (which you can purchase, natch). All told, not exactly a novel idea, but for Amazon, at least, it's a logical extension for X-Ray. Look for it on the new Kindle Fire HD or the smaller $159 Fire that was also announced earlier.

Beach Buggy Blitz for Tegra devices is totally tubular, man (and totally free)

Beach Buggy Blitz

If you're the proud owner of a Tegra device there's a great new game you have to try, Beach Buggy Blitz. The folks at Vector Unit (the same people who brought us Shine Runner and Riptide GP) have really outdone themselves with this one.

In Beach Buggy Blitz, you're tasked with driving from waypoint to waypoint, in an endless driving game. Along the way you'll find coins, which you can use to buy power ups and new equipment, all sorts of destructible scenery (carnage is fun), and a beautifully rendered environment. The effects, physics, and gameplay take full advantage of Nvidia's Tegra extensions, for one of the funnest driving games to ever hit Android.

It's addictive, and it's harder than it looks. While you're power sliding around corners, and laying waste to crabs and tiki torches, the clock is ticking. If you can't make it to the waypoint before the timer runs out, your game is done and you have to start all over again.

Right now the game is for Tegra devices only, but Vector has plans to bring it to other devices "soon". If you're like me and bought a Tegra device to play great games, you just found one. Grab it from Google Play through the link above, it's free (with in-app purchases for coins if you like). There's also a quick video of the game in action after the break.

Put your Pedaling to Good use with the ECOXPOWER Headlight Smart Phone Charger

If I was a bicycle enthusiast, I’d be all over the ECOXPOWER from ECOXGEAR. It’s a pedal powered front / rear headlight for your bike that can also charge your USB devices. As it is, I don’t ride bikes because I have bad knees. Or that’s what I tell people. Actually, I don’t ride bikes because I’m lazy… and I have a car. But seriously, the ECOXPOWER looks like a pretty cool device that uses a universal hub mounting bracket that fits most standard and oversized wheel hubs. As you roll down the road, the device generates power that charges an internal lithium ion battery that is used for the LED headlight and to power your connected USB device. Also included is a water-resistant touch-screen friendly handlebar case for your smartphone, GPS, etc. The ECOXPOWER is available now for $99.99.
