Titanium Backup is one of the essential items in a serial Android ROM flasher’s toolkit. It was one of the first apps that allowed a rooted device to fully backup a user’s apps and data and made restores after flashing a new ROM much easier. But it still meant flashing a new ROM, rebooting, downloading and reinstalling Titanium Backup and going through the restore process. Easy, but time consuming. Their newly released version 5.7.0 makes it even easier. Users can now create a zip file of their favourite apps and data, which can then be flashed straight from recovery mode. If you’ve got a lot of apps, I figure you’ll be able to save quite a bit of time on a rebuild.
It’s only available in the paid Pro version, but if like me and you’re always playing around with new ROMs, it’s well worth the $7 especially considering all the other functionality it contains besides backups.

According to a proxy statement filed with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) by MetroPCS, the merger with T-Mobile USA has been in talks much longer than first assumed. A deal with Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile's parent company) for a merger with T-Mobile USA began just 2 days after it failed to sell the company to AT&T. This means that the merger talks between the companies began all the way back in December of 2011.
MetroPCS reports that it was in talks with "several" wireless carriers for possible merger, buyout and spectrum licensing deals before finally settling on terms with Deutsche Telekom. Aside from its attempt to sell to Sprint earlier in the year, MetroPCS was also nearly acquired by an unnamed company that is a current roaming partner. The company also attempted twice to buy different chunks of spectrum from different satellite companies.
It seems there was quite a lot going on in the wireless industry while everyone was still confused about the fall-through of AT&T and T-Mobile's merger. Surely makes us wonder what else is in the works as we speak.

Care to be one of the first to buy a Wii U this weekend? Then start layering on the outerwear, swallowing that pride and making your way to Nintendo's flagship Rockefeller Plaza store in New York City. Starting at midnight this Saturday, the company will begin selling its next-gen console along with other "premium items" to the extreme fanpersons in attendance. And as a special treat for whomever's waiting at the front of the line, NOA's prez, Reggie Fils-Aime, will be there to hand over that very first console - effectively doubling your bragging rights. So, if you like your launch day cold and a little bit crazy (yes, there will be folks walking around with Mii heads), November 18th's one to mark down in the calendar.

TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related -- from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination. Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that's a neat feature, it's also a bit of a downer -- because, really, it's about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn't already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn't work with WP7 at the moment). While it's nice to see Windows Phone 7 users getting some big-name apps, it'd be even nicer if we saw some packing a bit more swagger. Still, TripAdvisor for WP7 might just be worth installing on your device if you're frequently on the go -- at least until a better browser arrives with the Mango update.TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 09:00:00 EST. It's hard to believe: our world-spanning network, our Internet, which is the cornerstone of free speech and free society -- which, on a good day, is capable of causing populist revolutions -- is still crippled by banal geolocation restrictions. We are, of course, talking about Amazon's two latest offerings, both of which are only available in the United States. Last week it was the excellent Android Appstore for Android, and today it's the Amazon Cloud Player for Web and Android. Along with Cloud Player, Amazon also launched Cloud Drive, which is basically just like any other cloud storage digital locker. It's not particularly feature rich, and there's no real reason to use it over something like SugarSync or SkyDrive -- it does work outside the US, however. Its primary purpose, as far as we're concerned, is that it stores your your Cloud Player music in a subdirectory. You get 5GB of Cloud Drive storage for free, and then it's $1 per gigabyte per year if you need more space. The Amazon Cloud Player itself will not, to put it bluntly, blow your mind. It works, but it's very much an early, and possibly rushed, release. Let's dive in to the Web and Android players for a closer look.Continue reading Amazon Cloud Player review: functional, not mind blowing, and still US-only
